Origin Stories For Super Heroes

I think I was bitten not by a radioactive spider but instead attacked by some lethargic bug. It’s hard to even hold my head up and I keep drifting back to sleep whilst never feeling rested. I don’t feel awful; I just feel exhausted. It’s a weird sensation. I must be fighting some nasty, lazy something. Yuck.

On the downside, I simply cannot bring myself to get out the door and run. Maybe later but right now my body is just saying, “Well, THAT’S not happening…”

On the plus side, I did something pseudo-positive. The other day I emailed a race director for a marathon I found fit a newly free weekend on my calendar. I told them it was a bit a of a long shot but I wanted to see if they offered a discount for Marathon Maniacs or 50 States Marathon Club members. I hadn’t seen anything listed on the respective club wesbutes but figured it never hurts to ask; invariably when I forget to ask there usually was a code I could’ve used to save a few bucks on registration. And ya know what? Turned out the Race Director DID offer a discount for club members — a pretty substantial 20% discount actually.

So now I’m all registered for the Cannonball Marathon in Greensboro, NC. This sadly is not a race inspired by the Burt Reynolds/Dom DeLuise car classic motion picture; I assume it’s more Civil War related based on the cannon graphic. Still, that hasn’t stopped me from looking for a Captain Chaos mask to run in as my own tribute to… HIM. Duhn duhn DUHNNNN!

So far, all I’ve found are European based costumes and NONE of the shops, manufacturers, or eBay sellers can ship to the USA. Who knew DeLuise’s alter ego was bigger in foreign lands than here in the good ol’ USA. I haven’t given up hope and if the giant Walker Texas Ranger from OKC taught me anything, it’s that dreaming big means sometimes doing it yourself.

Just not today. Today I need another nap.
