Prep and Landing

I’m packing up for a ten day trip to the Northeast. In the end, it’ll be six marathons in eight days but the real benefit is that I get to hang out with my brother for a bit.

I’m doing last minute laundry and packing up as I type this. I just tossed in Steve’s Christmas 2015 present I’ve been meaning to get to him for, well, 4 months and 4 days I guess. It was shipped from an eBay seller in Japan and took a lot longer than I had anticipated to get here.

Speaking of international sellers, I’ve picked up two pieces for my Captain Chaos running gear for the Cannonball Marathon in October. eBay tells me they’ve already shipped so I reckon I should see them right around September. The only way to pull this off on a budget is to plan ahead… that’s true of my registrations and travel plans as well.

I’ve spent the morning trying to suss out airfare and hotels for a few forthcoming trips but have struck out on most fronts. The July 1st ticket I need to book has gotten ever more expensive over the past few weeks and I refuse to pay $300 for one way travel. And despite repeated bids on Priceline for $100 the past few days, I’ve had no luck. I’m investigating mileage tickets now but I hate to spend the miles on what should for all rational thought and purposes NOT be a terribly expensive trip. I don’t know what happened — if the 4th of July weekend is mucking up fares or what. I’m really kicking myself now for not booking the ticket when it was $198 one way a few weeks back.

All this is to say that today is very much a planning day for travel and running. I did go out for a short 8 miler this morning and although the ankle seems ok, now the heel of my foot is playing up a bit. I’m still glad I did the run. I also think I’m *mostly* through that weird bug that struck me down this week. I think my Mom is a day behind me and so hopefully she’ll see marked improvement tomorrow herself. It was just nice today to not feel like my head was going to plummet to the ground because of some weird gravitational anomaly that made the noggin heavier than any other item on the face of the earth. I’m still tired but, hey, I’m sure 6 marathons in 8 days will TOTALLY solve that problem.

This isn’t the most useful or insightful blog entry but they can’t all be winners. I’m hopeful during my multi-day event I make it out to a few sights and attractions. RoadsideAmerica.com didn’t have a whole lot of options but the MainlyMarathons folks had this listed under Points of Interest:

Check out the Decoy Museum at 215 Giles St, Havre de Grace, MD.
It is one of the finest collections of Chesapeake Bay waterfowl decoys ever assembled

As my buddy Brent pointed out:

Well, ONE OF FINEST, sure. I appreciate the fact that they don’t want to fully go out on that limb and claim the mantle of best outright, because c’mon, that’s hugely subjective, and then you’re just opening yourself up to a firestorm of controversy.

So hopefully we’ve all got photos from THAT excursion to look forward to.  In the meantime — to pack, perchance to weigh under 50 pounds.
