For some reason, I’ve gotten into the notion of costume running for shorter distances. I blame that turkey costume for the Turkey Trot 5K last year. It was so surprisingly reasonably priced over at Amazon… and with Amazon Prime it was here so quickly… They say people with Amazon Prime spend more money at Amazon because of impulse buys due to faster shipping. That’s true for a lot of things I suspect but I was content to receive the turkey costume at a snail’s pace so long as it got to me by the turkey trot… which it did as evidenced by these photos here:

From there it was a short walk off the plank of a Tatooine gangster’s sail barge to an assorted costume trunk full of pieces. I’ve purchased a Christmas Story bunny suit even though I have yet to sign up for the Christmas Story 10K in December. I just picked up an Uncle Sam costume for the Firecracker Triple in July. And this week marks my Ewok and BB-8 getups for the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend (Dark Side) at Walt Disney World… albeit I’m only doing the 5K and 10K as I already had an inaugural marathon booked for Sunday the 17th when runDisney announced the dates for their races.

But the question I now face is which to wear when. Is my Ewok hat, gloves, and spear destined for the 5K or the 10K? Should I don my BB-8 mouse ears to the shorter or longer distance? These are the huge monumental decisions I face at the moment.

Rumor has it there’s rain forecast for Friday’s 5K but clear skies for Saturday’s 10K. Is it better to run the risk of “rusting” as a rolling droid or to face the smell of wet Ewok fur? Decisions, decisions.

runDisney has handed over the photos of their races to the Disney Photo Pass personnel, shutting out MarathonFotos. They’ve upped the price of the photo package although they’ve now included the all-in-one service with park photos during the race days. So conceivably you could run and get your photos then take your bib and medal into the parks to grab some post-race celebratory photos and those all will be included in your eventual downloads. That’s the first time in a while I felt like although they were charging more they were also giving a bit more. It’s still pricey, pricier than MarathonFotos, but not a bad deal if you’re doing a lot of park hopping in addition to park running.

Me? I’m just going to carry my phone and have folks snap my own pics. With these shorter distances, and the prospect of rain washing out photo opps, it doesn’t seem worth $169 (or if you buy it 3 days beforehand, $149). I’ll run the risk of my own shots being the ones long remembered.

May the course be with us… always.
