Transitions

One of my favorite race organizations has undergone a pretty big transition. Mainly Marathons announced today they have been sold to a new operating duo. Clint and Hannelore Burleson, founders of this crazy multi-day race group, are “retiring” which means I gather that they’re not going to be running the operations of the races and instead will be running IN them. Daniel and Jesse Rueckert, two speedy runners I’ve seen on the road who are more importantly two great brothers, will be taking over.  The good news is that it sounds like George and Kate Rose will still be out there on the courses… but I’m bummed for me yet happy for two of my other favorites: Norm and Cathy Duesterhoeft have apparently decided to spend more time at home and with their grandkids. Congratulations and best of luck to everybody at MM past and present, wherever their feet may take them next.

I’m sad to see some of the Mainly Marathon family leaving the day-to-day or race-to-race organization but will look forward to seeing them on the road. Times change, needs change, but people don’t. That sounds odd as I believe people can improve and develop and grow… but those with inherently positive core beings? That never changes. So while the behind the scenes stuff has gone down, I know there’s good folks swapping out hats or donning new shoes to walk/run for new horizons and new adventures.

At some point we will meet again… either over the social networks of virtuality or even better in the fresh air and amidst the gravel roads of real life.

Forward. Always.
