Self Diagnosis: Plantar Fasciitis

I’m more than 50% certain it’s plantar fasciitis that is plaguing my ankle and foot. Let’s be honest, I run a lot and it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that I’d develop what is the most common heal pain.

It comes and goes and is worse now and then. It’s not debilitating and honestly my shoulder is bugging me again. I’m wondering if air pressure/weather, so notorious amongst arthritis and signals for change, are impacting me negatively as well. It’s supposedly breaking triple digits here in the next few days so there is a change in the air for sure.

Little comfort as I continue to try both hard science and old wives’ tales remedies to alleviate the odd shots of pain. It’s a weird sensation — all is well and good and then I just must use my joint/muscles in such a way that it throbs a pain through my right foot. For a brief moment, there’s that throbbing pain but mostly it’s just kinda… there.

I’m still trying to rest it and I’m using various topical analgesics. Nothing seems to make much difference one way or the other… it’s a bit frustrating.

So I went for a run anyway.  It actually felt better 2/3 of the way into the run but started throbbing a bit towards the end.  I did find a penny though so it was a profitable day no matter what.

A quandary and a conundrum.  To run or not to run.  Since it doesn’t seem any worse after running I guess I’ll just err on the side of shorter distances leading up to the marathon on Monday and then re-evaluate as I go.  Seems as valid a plan as anything.

What’s the old saying about doctors being the worst patients?  I think self-medicating and diagnosing runners might be worse.
