Safety Begins With… A Sorta Human Saran Wrap Thing?

Last year I ran the Kyoto Marathon. I’m still getting updates from their Facebook page and email list serve as if I were running again this year. I found this post particularly… unsettling? Amusing? Helpful? All of the above.

I think it’s the invocation of “hypothermia and other reasons” for why people don’t make it to the start line on race day.

That’s certainly ominous. And while layers and a poncho might help somewhat, I’m not sure this particular poncho will offer a whole lot of warmth. It looks more like a nothing burger of thin plastic nothingness.  Albeit I’ve been in Florida in a poncho that seemed to double as a microwave oven, trapping my sweat and body heat amidst the humidity so ya know, maybe I know Nani mo.
