2017 WDW Personal Half Marathon

And the tortoise makes six…  While on my personal half marathon run up Apopka-Vineland and back home, I came across five other people doing their own runDisney half.  Some like me were rocking the yellow Donald Duck 2017 shirt.  Some spotted the yellow and gave me the thumbs up and shouted, “Doing mine too!”  “We are unflappable” I punned back.

Sometimes races get cancelled due to weather but it clears up later in the day. Such is the case today with runDisney’s Half Marathon. It was still the right decision to cancel for the safety of runners and volunteers. But that doesn’t mean you don’t take advantage of the free afternoon. Besides, sometimes you still get a character photo op — the tortoise, the duck, and me.

I will say even as I rounded the final turn into my driveway, I heard some rolling thunder in the distance.  Localized cells of lightning are no joke and even though I *think( we would have been ok running this morning, that’s hindsight AND who knows what it might have been like over on Disney property — I’ve been at my house and it’s dry as a bone and then driven half a mile into a monsoon.  The lines of rain demarcation around here are sharply defined.  The point is, I don’t blame the organizers or bear them a grudge.  They made a judgment call.  I made one today to go and get some miles in.  But as I heard that thunder, I wondered if maybe I hadn’t made a mistake.  You can always second guess… all you can do is take the information you have at hand and make a decision off of that.

And try and beat the tortoise when you can…
