Miles and Miles To Go…

It’s an overcast day in the City of Angels and I struggled with getting out the door. Part of it was I needed to login at 6:30 AM this morning to check in for my Southwest flight tomorrow. I’m too cheap to pay the early-bird fee and I’m only just now about to hit A-List status that will automatically check me in. As it was, I was maybe 30 seconds into the 24 hour in advance window and wound up with B-52 for a boarding number. Thirty seconds and I’m within single digits of the dreaded C-group that virtually assures a middle seat. Harrumph.

I did finally get a few miles in as a final taper before this weekend’s Marine Corps Marathon. The ongoing construction of the DC Metro has thrown the race organizers a real curve ball as getting people to the start has an added complication with delayed openings of the mass transit system. There’s a free shuttle bus from farther afield that will hopefully work out for me but only time and the events of Sunday will tell.

As I pack and prep for yet another airport, I’m struck by the miles I’m logging just getting to and from the 26.2 routes. The mileage involved in getting to the start line is probably taking a greater toll psychologically and physically than the mileage from start to finish lines.
