I neglected to post this warning sign from the St George Marathon expo. Personally, I don’t have a problem with selling your bib if you cannot run the event. I understand they want to preclude the scourge of scalpers who pre-purchase blocks of bibs and then resell them at huge markups, a la concert tickets. But if you get injured or a family issue comes up, it seems reasonable to transfer your bib. The race could even charge a fee to do it. I suspect the real concern at courses like St George is that someone gives their bib to a faster runner to get a Boston Qualifying time to get into Boston. The dark cheating underbelly of the running community is something to be mindful of… hence the jailbird attired warning.
