The Joys Of Getting Old?

The Rolling Stones are usually right, especially about getting old. But every so often there’s a slight silver lining to the grey hairs. Maybe it’s a free pancake breakfast at Denny’s. Or… No, that’s usually about all to look forward when the age odometer clicks over another year. After 25 when you can rent a car for less, there aren’t a lot of favorable milestone firsts with each new year.

But after overhearing at the Santa Rosa Marathon that last year Boston Qualifiers needed more than 2:30 under the cutoff time to hopefully ensure entry, I was feeling bummed since my best (and only) BQ time was 1:39 under the cut off.

But I just used the BAA qualifying calculator… And because I’m turning 40 before the 2017 race day, my time counts within my new demographic band.

So now I’m over 6 minutes under the cutoff. Being old means I may get to run Boston after all.

I wonder if there’ll be pancakes afterwards? Even if they’re not free, I just may treat myself.

I’m old.  I get to eat what I want, right?  Oh… I’m supposed to watch my cholesterol and avoid fatty foods and I should cutback on Diet Coke?

Man, what a drag it is getting old.
