I dug out my winter coat from the back of my closet. I haven’t needed it in a long time. But this trek up to Pennsylvania coincides with a fast moving cold front that has sent the area’s temperatures plummeting. There’s talk of sub-freezing temperatures at the starts on Saturday and Sunday… and chilly rain today upon my arrival.
Old coats are like time capsules. Once unearthed, there are scraps and snippets of memories, plans made or abandoned, roads taken or detoured. There’s a receipt from a late night dinner with my then girlfriend from 2014. A boarding pass to France. A Budget car rental agreement for Los Angeles Airport. And a slew of business cards, including this one:
It’s exhilarating and exhausting pulling memories from this coat.
It’s wonderful and wistful.
Ultimately though it’s surreal and all too real.
There’s a reason I leave my winter coat in the closet.
