City of Oaks Marathon Pre-Game

My sea legs are showing.  I slept fitfully last night, my body unaccustomed to a non-water based bed.  I wonder if I had a water bed if the transition from ship to shore or shore to ship would be easier.  This morning I felt my shower swaying … only to realize it was stable and I was the one wobbling with sense memory of the motion of the ocean.

I’ve driven up to North Carolina for the City of Oaks Marathon tomorrow morning.  The bib pickup was quick and painless…

I don’t know if it counts as Hashtag Winning to get carded when they check everyone’s for post race beer garden access, regardless of the number of our grey hairs.

I can’t really remember how to do this.  This happens sometimes when I haven’t raced for a few weeks, which is crazy.  But I’m trying to recall the ins and outs of marathoning.  I packed light, just stuffing some gear into a backpack as this is quite literally an overnighter.  Raleigh tonight, run in the morning, back home by night.  But sometimes I forget things when I go light.  I can’t remember if I have my garmin watch.  I think I tossed it in from my luggage.  Huh.  Maybe I’ll just wing it.

I stepped on the scale this morning and despite my palindrome challenge I lost the waistline war and gained a few pounds.  That’s to be expected but I was hoping it’d be less of a net gain if that makes any sense.  I foresee a lumbering 26.2 miles in my running crystal ball future.  Sigh.

On the plus side, I gain an hour with daylight savings.  I only wish we were starting at 1:59 am tomorrow so I could shave an hour off my time.  But part of me fears even with that advantage I might not be able to BQ in the shape I’m in!

The clock is always running….
