Holy Guacamole!

So, I only saw about 2 or 3 people cutting the course whilst running the Mexico City Marathon. I assumed that was a good sign indicating a marked improvement over last year’s infamous 5800+ cheaters.

Apparently I was wrong. So very, very wrong.

According to this Canadian Runner Magazine story, it’s estimated that 13,000 people cheated yesterday.

THIRTEEN THOUSAND!  Out of 35,000 or so. That’s something like 37% of the field.

¡Ay, caramba!

I especially like the detail that two local stories highlighting the cheaters prospering have since been removed, whether due to political pressure or editorial errors.

Maybe I was at the most corrupt marathon ever.  I just didn’t realize it as it was happening.

I would make a terrible eye-witness.
