Pikes Peak Marathon has a very strict 10 hour cut-off. If you come back down the mountain and cross the finish line at 10:00:01, you get disqualified and listed as a DNF — Did Not Finish.
This year, the last person under the cutoff placed 666th. That’s not ominous at all. It’s just a number, right?
I came in 206th overall:
The race organization has my split times broken out into various components but rather than toss a melange of numbers onto the page inspired by the likes of Jackson Pollock , I thought a graphical representation would better serve here.
The image below then comes from the data on my Garmin watch… which BARELY made it through the whole ordeal on a single charge. I think I was down to 11% when I finished… which is kinda ironic as I was personally well below that number energy wise.
In any case, here’s the elevation chart juxtaposed with my pace. It’s… illustrative.
This is the story I should tell; sure, there’s more that *could* be said, but given that I already invoked Hamlet’s parting words yesterday, perhaps I should just type: exeunt omnes… and hasta la vista, as Mexico City is the next race being run.
Until we meet again… adios.
