I think I’ve said this before with regards to running clubs: sometimes the rules are arbitrary and if you don’t like ’em you really can just go and make your own club. You don’t have to be upset or let others dictate what is or isn’t a personal accomplishment. I remember a race director told somebody in Antarctica because the race had to be called due to a dangerous storm rolling in it wouldn’t count as their seventh continent because they ran 24 miles and then finished the remaining distance on the ship. That’s his rules… as far as we all were concerned, they ran a marathon in Antarctica and who the hell cares what some club (which was run by that race director) says? That’s when I sent them a design for their own 7+7 club because, well, arbitrary is as arbitrary does. I don’t believe in the no-win scenario. I don’t like to lose. And rules are all well and good but sometimes the only way to uphold justice is by breaking the rules.
Anyway, that’s all a roundabout way of explaining that today is apparently “Global Running Day.” My facebook feed and email is awash in posts and messages with running deals on races, gear, and whatnot.
To me, this day has another name. It’s called “Wednesday.”
But by all means people – celebrate running. As for me, I just get all Sesame Street and think you should keep running with you, all through the year…
