Independence Series – Day 4 – New Jersey

Rain, rain. Go away! Come again some other day!

Somebody must have sung this early this AM, as the forecasted morning of showers turned out to be a swing and a miss – it was overcast, a little dreary and a chilly 49 degrees, but the rain never came. Indeed, late in my loop de loops, the sun even poked out briefly, like a solar Puxatawney Phil letting us know how many more days of rain we could expect.

My legs felt like pianos today… And not the upright Western movie saloon kind. They felt like the big boys, baby grands or grands, the kind you see at Carnegie Hall if you practiced, practiced, practiced. They were engaging in dueling pianos in fact in which I’m not sure anyone was going to emerge victorious.

Lots of new folks running today in Jersey. Almost 190 people ran today over the span of distance events. Meant there were plenty of fresh legs and I really couldn’t compete. As it finished up, on my final loop of the 14 loop course, I think I was around 3:52 for my time. Felt A LOT longer that I was in my feet though.

Tomorrow is the Delaware Marathon so I bid farewell to my Mainly Marathon family for this series. I did snag a quick pic with Clint Burleson, conductor of this crazy train series, and founder of MM.
