Leaving the El Paso Airport in my wee little rental car (“wee” as in “small” not “wee” as in “this car is so fun to drive, wheee!”) I had to turn left onto Robert E Lee Road… only my google maps voice kept calling it “Robert East Lee Road.” It’s an adorable bug, a mistake though that is a reminder of how we can’t completely turn our lives over to the machines just yet.
I’m nervous about tomorrow… and the four days after that. My legs are a bit stiff and sore and I haven’t done anything remotely near marathon mileage in weeks… and certainly not five 26.2s in five days. I have in the past, more miles on more days even. I’m relying therefore on muscle memory to carry the days… which might be a reminder of why I shouldn’t completely be in control of my decision making. I’ve promised to drop out if the miles prove too much. This week isn’t about personal records. It’s about trying to get back into shape. Slow and steady are the orders of the days to come.
Let’s see if I follow my command programming as well as my iPhone.
