The Missing Pieces – October 25, 2017

October 25, 2017 – Holding Pattern

While I’m laid up and feeling awful, I thought I might as well try and finalize the migration of runkevinrun.com to a new web hosting service.  They’ve apparently transferred 40 gigs of data from the old company to the new and I’ve just updated all the DNS Name Servers to go to the new company.  This can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet world wide thus they said I shouldn’t make any updates/changes to the site for the time being.

Which is all well and good as it’s all over but the crying.  I’m wincing and icing and doing whatever it is one is supposed to do to recover from a bruised/broken tailbone. According to a google search (god help us for the medical advice we take from the hive mentality of the dot com), a bruised tailbone usually takes about 4 weeks to heal and a broken tail bone can take up to 12 weeks.  While there are more serious drugs for painkilling, there isn’t much else to do besides rest and ice and compression and elevation (including the hemorrhoid donut to elevate the buttocks above the hard surfaces whilst sitting).  Getting back to physical exercise is essentially done on a pain threshold basis – once the healing is in process or done it’s a matter of how much pain can one endure to do the exercise.

With a few minor detours and cries for help that ultimately had me dropping out and then dropping back in, I was able to endure the pain for 26.2 miles in Ventura.  So when the time comes, I’ll just have to suck up the pain regardless.  There’s too many events already booked and paid for.

But I have found myself hesitant to commit to any other events in 2018.  I’m not sure what to do.  I’m not sure I’ll run again.  It’s a wallow.  A cruddy wallow that no one wants to follow.  So maybe it’s for the best that I can’t post this.

Meantime, here’s some of the free race photos from Ventura that they just sent me.  While some shots look like my usual un-photogenic self, some I think readily show the half stride and poor form of my rattling bones, back, and butt.
