Running The Bases

Fifty people. Five thousand dollars apiece. One hundred twelve times running the bases.

In running circles (pun intended), it’s big news. And the mainstream press has picked up on it too. It’s a unique marathon experience – The Fenway Park Marathon. This is a charity focused one-off, an opportunity to do good while doing something crazy.

I have to say the sticker shock of raising $5k (not to be confused with kilometers) was off putting to me… I’m so very bad at salesmanship and fundraising… Yet I must admit I found it tempting. Fortunately, I already have a race on my calendar that day – it will be my 50th event with Mainly Marathons (via their Center of the Nation series) and nets me a Day of the Dead skull MainLyner award.

And yet, look at this promo shot for Fenway – there’s a big giant foam mascot. It’s like they’re marketing directly to me. They know how to sell and fundraise…
