Moonshot Update – “Advanced” Marathoning?

Things are not going well.  The mileage is long, the timing is off, and the scale?  The scale moans in defeat as the weight weighs ever heavier.

I did ultimately buy a copy of “Advanced Marathoning” from eBay.  It’s a first edition, originally released in 2001 and while a second edition exists I assumed the bulk of the info and strategies would still be applicable.

I’ve read the introductory chapter though and I’m not sure this is quite right for me.  While I’m fully in favor of a more scientific approach to the moonshot…

I’m oddly uninspired by the discussion over the timing of the training.  It makes sense, to be sure.  Recovery and structured push-pull of exercise and cross training, coupled with speed work has been my general plan anyway.

And yet, this phrasing has me… how best to phrase this without coming off as a complete loon… this phrasing has me wondering if I don’t need an Advanced Marathoning text for the Excessive Runner.

And so I’m debating another book buy.  Runner’s World sent me a newsletter recently that included a shill for this book… and it was effective in its promotion.

I’ve found myself wondering if maybe this isn’t the one to base my moonshot strategy upon.  I need to come up with a plan soon, though.  The  launch date is set and is an immovable object; I need to become an unstoppable force yet feel all-too-stoppable.
