Prep and Leaving

For the first time in a few years, I won’t be running the LA Marathon. I hadn’t planned on being on the West Coast but circumstances and misplaced priorities have brought me back to the Left Coast… rather than repeating a marathon, I’ve decided to head up to Modesto, CA, to run their event.

This morning I was out and about getting a few S-L-O-W miles in (sigh… this does not bode well). Part of my usual training run takes me along the LA route that runs from the (Dodgers) Stadium to the (Pacific Ocean) Sea. Preparations are in full swing for Los Angeles to host their 32nd annual run.

Founded in 1986, it’s an interval of 31 years but in my old math word problem educational parlance it’s a “fence post” problem; for 31 intervals you need 32 posts — so, yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s the 32nd Annual Marathon.  Oddly, that stat is apparently NOT on their website… or at least I don’t see it listed prominently.  But I’m at least 90% sure it’s the 32nd Annual.  Not that it matters — I’m off to the … ya know I can’t figure out WHEN Modesto was founded… so I’m off to the (mumbled) Annual Modesto Marathon!
