I gotta get back on the horse. Recovering ever so slowly from the great reflector trip and fall of 2017, I’m struggling with the several days on aches and pains. It never seems so bad at first, the need to push through causing the adrenaline to freely flow and thereby overloading the proverbial nervous system’s pain circuits. But in the days after, the realities come home to roost (mixing all kinds of literary language here, I know. Dance with the one you brung, folks. By that I mean, you should be used to this by now if you’ve read any of this blog ever). The bruises get bruisier, turning a darker shade of black and blue. The aches and pains from the fall are intermixed with the strain on muscles and joints that overcorrected to compensate for the injuries to get one through. And the band-aids? Ye gods am I sick of the band aids. Every time I wash my hands, the gauze gets soaked and smelly and slimy and ugh. Ugh!
But I’ve got a trip planned to Asheville, NC, this weekend. It’s to be held at the Biltmore Estate, a place I’ve never been but many of my Tar Heel pals (and many folks I know who were just visiting the state) have raved about the place. I was looking forward to the trip… but then then injuries piled up and I just checked the weather.
Now forecasts from the weather professionals are about as reliable as shaking and consulting a Magic 8 Ball. Could be right, could be wrong. Weather forecaster is about the only profession where one can be wrong 99.99% of the time… hell, probably 100% of the time… and still be employed. ut I digress. In checking the weekend’s forecast, I was also reminded it’s Daylight Savings weekend, meaning we spring forward an hour at 1:59:59 AM to 3:00:00 AM. My hatred for both antiquated clock shifts is fodder for another post but suffice to say, the shift already has me [sic] hackles raised. And yeah, I’m going all folksy or Irishy or something on that phrasing. What of it? You want a piece of me? Man, I’m in a mood.
Anyhoo, I’m running a half marathon on Saturday at the Biltmore and then a full marathon on Sunday.
This is what the good weather folks are saying will be what I’m to face:

Rain and snow and colder temps for the longer run? Swell.
