The Cost of Opportunity Knocking?

When I decided to try and finally run the Outback Marathon, it meant I had to drop out of the San Francisco Marathon that was being held that same weekend. I suppose with the international date line there was a teeny, tiny possibility that I could run the Australian event on Saturday morning, which would be Thursday night on the West Coast, hop on a plane out of Ayer’s Rock to Sydney and then catch a direct flight to SF, arriving I guess maybe Saturday night or super early Sunday morning, grab an Uber and run the Golden Gate and beyond… but that’s A LOT of moving parts and my luck with airlines in Australia has been, well, not great. And besides, it would’ve meant I’d miss out on the legendary Travelling Fit celebratory dinner under the Aussie night sky.

Still, it was weird today to get my SF bib number in my email.

There was a teeny, tiny part of me that thought, “How much could the change fee be?”

Oi, oi, oi, as the second half of the Aussie, Aussie, Aussie chant goes, albeit with a different inflection and meaning in this case.

Rest assured, I’m crazy… but I’m not THAT crazy.
