Kathmandu? Don’t mind if I do!

A preview of coming attractions.

The itinerary as emailed to me before departure:

The Itinerary

April 20: Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is free. Kathmandu is at 1400m altitude and therefore the package is designed that you can adjust to the altitude and heat (can be warm in this period).

April 21: Morning: sightseeing tour of downtown Kathmandu. You will visit Durbar Square and Swayambhunath also called Monkey temple because of the many monkeys that live here. This day we also visit the Boudhanath. This is one of the largest stupas in the world.

April 22: Sightseeing Patan. Patan with its magnificent art and architecture is known for its industry in bronze, silver and copper. After lunch you will visit the impressive cremation Pashupatinath. Here the cremation in the open air. The ash that remains after the cremation is spread in the holy Bagmati river.

April 23: A day hike in the Kathmandu valley. From Chobar you walk through a simple but fascinating route to Bungamati. According to legend, the lake water of Kathmandu escaped through the beautiful gorge Chobar
after the saint Manjushri had beaten with his sword. During the walk you will discover the authentic rural life and the smiling people of the Kathmandu Valley. Tourists are not realy known here. Bungmati, the end of the
tour, is built against a steep river bank and surrounded by rice terraces. Ten minutes from Bungmatti is the Newari village Khokana, which is also worth a visit. Khonaka is famous for its mustard oil. Their production goes according to the old traditions. In the afternoon you are back in Kathmandu.

April 24: Today you can pick up your start number in the Kathmandu Guesthouse and ask any questions to the organization. The rest of the day is free at leisure. A good massage in one of the great massage parlors in Thamel is recommended.

April 25: Marathon day! Start of the marathon is at 9:00hrs.

April 26: This day is free to digest the impressions of Kathmandu Urban Marathon. Optional: Mountain flight*. Early in the morning transfer to the airport for a spectacular flight along the highest peaks in the world. During this 60 minute flight, you can enjoy breathtaking views on Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Cho Oyu. Cost approximately USD190.
*This is only possible with good visibility and may be canceled by bad weather.

April 27: Transfer to airport for departure
