Bit By Bit – A Sondheim-ian Moment of Putting It Together

We’re into the final countdown of prep for the inaugural Madagascar Marathon.

Marathon Tours has sent me the paperwork and runner shirt:

A few weeks ago we got our visas sorted as we had been warned the visa on arrival can be a time-consuming series of frustrations.  So we’re all set there:

So far as I know, my plane ticket now has the missing “I” restored… yet I don’t know how much that ultimately will cost me.  All I see are “pending” charges on my Amex card for a $1 from Priceline… and I seriously doubt that long bureaucratic nightmare is over.

Mom, who had never seen the DreamWorks SKG film that clearly, uh, “inspired” the logo of the marathon, wanted to catch the movie before we left.  So we gave that a spin last night.

I still need to pack and sort out a few things but I’m sadly coming down with a cold.  My throat is sore, my nose is stuffed, and my head is cloudy.  The Penguins of Madgascar summed it up nicely upon their arrival in Antarctica (Mom and I laughed so much at this throwaway joke that I made her a magnet to put on the fridge):

I’ve got three days and a wakeup before we leave so I’m popping echinacea, grape seed extract, and downing drugs like I was Jamie Conway in Bright Lights, Big City.

Bit by bit.
